Memorial service for Christians of Eastern Europe killed by Communism

Date Created:
1956-06-09
Description:
The first part of the recording is a memorial service ("panakhyda") at a New York City church, with an opening statement by Archbishop Mstyslav (Skrypnyk). In it, he alludes to a visit to the United States by Soviet religious leaders led by Metropolitan Nikolai. The latter part of the recording has the conclusion of a Radio Liberation program stating that it was broadcast on 1959-06-09. After that there is what sounds like a choir rehearsing "Vstavai, vstavai, narode, z ruin vstavai", and "Oi ziishla zoria". The latter material may be the result of tape reuse.
