Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion to Ukraine, musicians took weapons in their hands - both musical instruments and guns. Join Iryna Voloshyna online for her report on War Music in Ukraine.

 

 

 

Iryna Voloshyna is a PhD student at the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University Bloomington. She is a Fulbright fellow and received her MA in Folklore at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She is originally from Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, where she received her undergraduate degree. Her research interests include folk arts, material culture, ethnomusicology, performance studies, heritage studies, migration and diaspora studies, and politics of culture. Iryna worked with the New York State Council on the Arts, New York Folklore Society, Yara Arts Group, Ukrainian Museum in New York and Ukrainian-American Museum and Archive in Detroit; she also sang with the NYC-based ensemble Ukrainian Village Voices. She is currently an Associate Instructor at the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University .
