Celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day

Join us for a whirlwind concert of music and dance, featuring Gerdan (Andrij Pidkivka and Solomiya Gorokhivska) and the Iskra Dance Ensemble (Andriy Cybyk, director).

The Iskra Dance Ensemble is a professional-level Ukrainian dance ensemble based in Whippany, NJ. It is directed by dancer and choreographer Andrij Cybyk, and is an expression of his extensive life in dance. Besides his training in ballet and character dance, he has studied numerous world folk styles. That knowledge and his experience in modern dance have allowed Mr. Cybyk to create uniquely beautiful and exciting choreographies, finding similarities between such seemingly disparate styles as swing and folk dance from the Volyn' region of Ukraine.

The Gerdan ensemble, lead by classical and folk flute virtuoso Andrei Pidkivka and violinist Solomia Gorokhivsky, presents the regional music Ukraine, as well as the music of the neighboring regions of Romania, Poland, Moldavia, Slovakia and Hungary. They combine traditional music with works by composers as varied as Gershwin and Skoryk, and play traditional instruments in styles ranging from jazz and swing to tango and salsa. Don't miss the chance to hear them in this rare New Jersey appearance.
