Join Lisa Madson, teaching artist, for an afternoon exploring the art of “easy-carve” lino block printing.
Linocut printing is a relief printmaking technique in which an image is carved into a linoleum surface, inked, and pressed onto paper or fabric to create a print.
Participants will learn how to trace, carve, and print their own linoleum block design. Each participant will print their image onto a tote bag provided by UHEC.
A selection of images will be available for inspiration, or participants are welcome to bring their own black-and-white design ideas sized to fit a 4 x 6 inch carving block.
This workshop is open to adults and children ages 14 and older.
Instruction in English.
Workshop cost: $50

About the Instructor:
Lisa Madson is a New Jersey–based artist who studied at Montclair University. She furthered her education through classes at the Printmaking Center of New Jersey (now Frontline Arts), where her interest in printmaking deepened and led to her connection with the Nature Printing Society, an international organization dedicated to printing directly from natural forms. This technique—using subjects such as fish, insects, and trees—has allowed Madson to focus on intimate, close-up views of the natural world as we encounter it in everyday life, while also exploring the broader philosophy of humanity’s place within it.
Madson has gained recognition in galleries and museums in the tri-state area, and her exhibitions have received attention from various reviewers, having been featured in New Jersey Stage, Bridgewater Lifestyle Magazine, Skylands Magazine, and Nature Printing Society Quarterly.
Exhibitions at various venues include: Atlantic Highlands Arts Council, The Noyse Museum, LBIF invitational, John James Audubon Center, PA, New Jersey Highlands Coalition, Hunterdon Art Museum, Monmouth Art Museum, Freelinghuysen Arboretum, Frontline Arts.
She currently works as a teaching artist sharing with others the art of nature printing.
