In addition to its regular programming for adults and children, exhibitions, and Stories from Storage, the UHEC also has several ongoing special projects.
The oldest of these is the Nashi Predky/Our Ancestors Ukrainian genealogy program, which provides educational resources, online and in-person talks and conferences on topics related to Ukrainian genealogy and history writ large. The Group also founded and continues to maintain the Facebook group Ukrainian Genealogy: Our Ancestors -- Наші Предки, which is a vibrant community of over 6,000 individuals passionate about learning their family histories and helping others to do the same.
More recently, we have embarked on a project to provide basic resources on the history of Ukrainians in New Jersey, the state in which we are physically located. This work has been made possible by funds from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Historical Commission. The first phase of this project covering the time period just prior to the arrival of the post-WW II migration wave was completed in 2024. The second phase is currently ongoing and will be available by the end of 2025.
More projects are in the works. Stay tuned for details!
