The annual Family History Group Spring workshop will present a half-day of talks on the history of Ukrainians in America from a genealogical perspective, and the history and archival resources for ethnic Ukrainians in Poland from experts Michael Buryk and Aleksandra Kacprzak.

A History of Ukrainians in the United States (Michael Buryk)

Ukrainians have been coming to the United States in large numbers since the end of the 19th century.  However there are examples of other individual Ukrainians who came as early at the Jamestown Colony in Virginia in the 17th century.  Several short biographies of prominent Ukrainian Americans are included in this talk. Also learn about the establishment of large, compact Ukrainian American communities and how they developed.

This lecture will examine possibilities of finding Archives holdings for Galician research, explain how to do personal research in Przemyśl and Rzeszów State Archives, and analyze available online digital collections. You will learn about cadastral maps, notary documents and more.

Learn how to find old, lost-in-the woods Lemko villages, how to find relatives that were fighting in WWI and the locations of available documents concerning Vistula Operation. Also get acquainted with additional sources  for lost ancestors in your family tree.
